Carver Museum ATX Jamel Shabazz’s “PEACE TO THE QUEEN” Retrospective

Role: Technical Manager + Exhibit Coordinator

Casey worked for the Carver Museum in various roles to support the design + development of multiple exhibitions like, Peace to the Queen the inaugural retrospective of the iconic New York photographer, Jamel Shabazz a captivating three-room cross-media museum exhibit curated by Ja’nell Ajani on view for an nine month duration.

Digital monitors increasing exhibit capacities by utilizing two synced media installations we were able to exhibit 50+ more photographs within the the confines of a three room retrospective. As well as animate the film stills into 4K motion.

Women and their Work Steef Crombach’s

“One Bad Monkey”, 2022

As New Media Director Alfstad worked with Crombach in studio, in concept and in gallery to design and integrate 3 site based audio-visual sculptures into a solo exhibition and sculptural exhibit. Alfstad worked with the Crombach, the gallery director, and animator Claire Schlaikjer to enliven and abstract iconic Austin, Texas characters into storytelling textiles, patterns with audio-visual motion sculptures.

Gallery lighting + Projection The works were specifically designed into a space that would be maintaining day-time gallery lighting, an example of how both analog artworks and project works can cohesively co-exist.

Martha’s Contemporary Video Picnic I + II

Role: Co-Curator + New Media Director

Video Picnic, an immersive 1-hour long video art screening featuring a selection of over 20 international motion artists such as Sawoko Kabuki and Caitlin Mccarthy produced by concept animals + Martha’s. The screening was surrounded by digital clouds floating in the sky, moving at the pace of the changing video works, creating a surreal and engaging atmosphere.

International exhibition: The digital media handling brought artists from 5 different countries into the gallery, with zero cost shipping or insurance fees during a post-covid time when gallery exhibition opportunities were at an all time low.

Non Invasive Wall Treatments: Example of how digital wall treaments can create ambiance and lighting customizations without harming artwork or walls.

Digitally Rotating Mural exhibit - Proof of Concept

As media director completed the real-time proof of concept for a digitally rotating exhibit and public art installation for the President of HTU on the Austin landmark King-Seabrook Chapel and Bell Tower.

Customizable Canvas: Offered a mural organization a more granular understanding on how they can select one mural per wall, or they can create digital canvas’s that can showcase 100 artworks per wall via a permanent installation or temporary exhibition.
