Elizabeth Chapin “Digital Eyes” + “Baby”
Casey worked with artist Elizabeth Chapin in studio to transition projection mapping and hand painted animation into her sculptural practice. Chapin approached Casey with her ideas and they explored various production approaches and defined process strategies that would both achieve Chapin’s vision and and enliven the media sculptures to their fullest conceptual capacity. Chapin continues to utilize projection and motion video media in her soft sculpture practice.
“Digital Eyes” is a soft sculpture by artist Elizabeth Chapin, which is part-painted and part-digitally colored with projection and video. The bathing figure stands in the fore front with blinking eyes. Clouds are reflected in the background wrapped with projection mapped eyes, as there is rippling motion over the painted water.
“Baby” is a soft scullpture of a mother holding her baby. While most of the sculpture is hand painted, the baby’s face is a projected animation transitioning from an angelic face to a demon in seamless loop.
